Been a while, hasn't it?

Its been a month since I managed to get myself organised to get something on to my blog. Like my friend Pam said on a recent post : "I figure one really does need to have something mildly interesting to report on ........"
Some of the Blogs I visit are very prolific and most days have something posted to them but that isn't me. No pondering on the state of the world at large or in my community, the most interesting thing that goes through my brain at the moment is related to what we are going to eat for dinner or, "Do I debit or credit an asset account when I do that?"

I have got the vegie garden almost in and spend quite a bit of time covering and uncovering because we are still having the odd frost now and then. I had to get things in the ground though because punnets of seedlings start to get a little restless if left too long. They just run out of room!!!

The Bookkeeping course is coming along but there are days when I just throw my hands in the air and walk away. Not sure if it is actually the course or just sitting on my bum at the computer for hours on end. Probably a reason why my blog has been neglected as well.I spend a lot of time in the garden tidying and mowing.  I think it is my excuse to get up from the computer and move around a little bit. I had a whole day out in the paddock getting wood last weekend. My neighbour very generously gave me a huge limb which is now sitting in my woodshed ready for next winter.

The grand kids are here for a couple of weeks as well while my daughter is off gallivanting around New Zealand again. This time there are three of them driving around and planning their own tour. Last I heard she was sleeping in a forest retreat and going on a helicopter flight. It's such a hard life for the young these days.
Poe is my daughter's new baby, a tiny little black bundle of sweetness.  Poe is having a lovely adventure exploring everything and making friends with all who cross her path. She is still a little unsure about the dogs and gives them a quiet hello and moves on very quickly.

And of course Atticus is back. I couldn't get a decent photo today because he had been waiting for Fred, then Poe to finish eating so he could have a turn. I did remind him that there were two other bowls of pellets but for some reason they all like to eat from this one.
Yesterday it was 30 degrees and extremely humid. I started my spring cleaning by washing the ceiling and walls in the bathroom. I always start on the smallest room and work my way up and thank god I did!
Today it is cool, overcast and much better weather for manual labor if I muster the energy to do any more. Having a combustion stove and wood heater means everything gets very grotty over the winter.
Well I had better get off this thing and get organized. You know how I said it has been a month since I was here last,  it is the Farmers Market again this morning and I think I will go for a wander and see what I can find there today. Maybe more bread or some more plants for the garden??

LATER.....

So I've been for a wander around the Market and have come home with Spinach and Feta bread and some lovely rhubarb. Mum used to give us stewed rhubarb and custard for dessert when we were little and I am remembering how much I liked it although I'm not making the custard.

Bread and the garden.

It is a perfect Spring morning here. I had planned on getting up  and getting organised so I could get to the farmers market early. I was on a mission. A later start than planned because of a lovely early morning phone call with my sister, I still got there and found what I had headed there for.
Bread, lovely homemade bread to go with the Tapenade I had bought earlier in the week. You really do need the right bread for it you know.
She didn't have the Olive bread she makes but I did get a feta loaf and a sun dried tomato and feta loaf which is just as good.
I am thankful I didn't have too much money on me as there were a couple of plant stalls and even though there was heaps I could have come home with I was restrained by the wallet. So only two pots ended up being mine.

I am a little bit in love with geraniums at the moment although I have to keep them in pots and bring them under the veranda over the winter, otherwise the frosts here destroy them. The one I bought today is a double pale pink one. Very pretty. The other plant is to go in the new bed up the side. ( I will show photos when it starts to look respectable)

Have this lot to put in some time over the weekend as well. There are only 11 punnets and some of them are vegetables although with more frosts expected, the vegies may need to go in pots for a while. I already have a couple of tomato plants growing beautifully in pots under cover.

And yes there is plenty of room because I have filled the tandem trailer with all my pruning and weeding this week.  The big achievement is that I hooked it on to the car and drove it up the front yard then backed the mongrel thing. I knew I could do it but the males in this house were very surprised that I could manage it.
I have found it extremely hard to knuckle down and study with the weather being so amazing. The five minute break can turn into an hour if I'm not careful cause I will think, "I'll just work on this little bit for a minute then go back to the books."  I'm not sure who I'm trying to fool when I think that but I have managed to keep on track with the study and get the garden under control.

Things Change.

I was recently given this tin and although it isn't in the best shape it has a couple of points that make it worth keeping on the shelf
My kids are having trouble getting there head around the fact that once ice-cream could be bought in a tin. Especially as the tin has rust inside it (that's because it's old) I suppose it probably wasn't the best way to do it but packaging wasn't quite as disposable back then as it is now.  Everything was recycled if possible although I don't think the term recycle had been invented then.
The second thing is that it proudly proclaims on the top of the tin, 'Artificially coloured and flavoured' .  Now days that poor tin of ice-cream would sit on the shelf forever. How times have changed.

I managed to get out and play on my new toy yesterday. The lawns looked lovely, especially as it only took me a couple of hours to get them done. Just like last time I mowed, there are strong winds today and they are covered in twigs and leaves. Cato is loving it, running around madly trying to catch everything that flies past, but poor Fred is hiding. He is such a sook of a cat!!!!
Dave and I have spent a lot of time working on a new garden bed at the side of the house. I managed to get a trailer load of soil for it this week and it is edged with sleepers that came from an old bridge in the area.It is looking amazing and when it has been planted I will put up some before and after photos.
Today it is back to the books. There has been so much going on this week that my study has been badly neglected, the lure of warm spring days is no help either!!!!!
